Nicole is a singer, percussionist, and instrument meddler for 5OC. She has been told she came out of the womb singing! Nicole comes from a family of musicians and was always in awe when her Dad was on the stage behind his drum kit. Nicole was a karaoke rat for many years and has been in many bands throughout her life as a backup and lead vocalist. She also lends her percussion abilities where she can. Recently, she has been learning to overcome her shyness with playing "real" instruments in front of a crowd. Her background in theatre lends to her performing abilities. If there's one place she feels at home, it's on the stage! She thinks she sings too loud...others beg to differ. When Nicole is not hanging out with the other Odd Cats, she is performing with Rock Voices; Dark Sarcasm (a tribute to Pink Floyd); running her cleaning business; creating/crafting whatever inspires her at the moment and spending as much time possible with her husband (5OC's bass player) and their 4 cats!
Rachel Plyem grew up in musical homes. Her grandfather, (Bobby Utah) had a radio show and played in several country bands in New York and New England. Her Step/father played guitar in several touring bands and once shared a stage with Kenny Loggins. Rae picked up her first guitar at 8 years old and played songs around the table with family, singing songs. Rae has been inspired by many artists in many genres of music, and has been inspired by playing music with many talented musicians. Rae loves singing, playing guitar and is learning to play drums. Music is Rae's favorite pasttime because she gets to play music with her husband/best friend, and other very cool and talented people.
Christopher Plyem has been playing drums since his parents bought him a "Ringo" Ludwig kit in the late sixties. He completely annoyed his parents and siblings with incessant banging and all that noise, noise noise.... eventually he became skilled enough to be able to hold onto the sticks when a speedy roll from left to right was required across the myriad tom toms on a new fancy kit he purchased! He has been in dozens of cover bands, multiple original bands and a few tribute bands. He is on 3 CDs created by people from NYC whom he initially met in a seedy Albany NY bar, and a DVD/CD combo of an original band in the Albany NY area. He likes dogs, cats and several species of jumping spiders. A favorite pastime is building things with rocks and relaxing on his porch with some sturdy drink.
Paul plays guitar for 5OC. Sometimes he is too loud and people throw things at him. He likes pretty much all music but 70's funk/rock, 80's new wave, and 90's grunge are his favorite. Paul's mom played piano and his grandmother played piano for silent movies. His great grandfather was a composer in Malta. Paul likes dogs and has 3 grandkids.
Chris Nawrot covers the low-end for 5OC. He is a self-taught bassist inspired by artists such as Geddy Lee, Doug Pinnick, Krist Novoselic, and Mike Inez just to name a few. In real life, Chris is a stay-at-home Software Architect, devoted husband and cat-dad, and an avid gamer.
The Five Odd Cats collectively know a ton of music dating from the 60's to today! This list is just a sample of the songs and genres you can expect to hear.
